In our recent post, we talked about the dawn of iOS 13 beckoning. Since the release date is still so far, most users are still using iOS 12.1.3 or iOS 12.1.2. While the iOS 12.1.3 is the most recent update, some users might want to downgrade back to iOS 12.1.2. Here is a guide to assist you in doing exactly that in clear steps.
Before we get to the guide part, let’s look at Apple’s iOS 12.1.3. The difference between the versions is usually quite narrow. Additions on the new versions are usually simple ringtones or notification sounds. Hardware is impossible to change via an OS update, the software is all that can be changed. iOS users are often lured by the amazing camera and sleek hardware design. The iOS version is often a non-issue to most users. Imagine Apple had a way of updating hardware remotely like they do with software. Wouldn’t that be a monumental breakthrough?
Back to the downgrade, the process is quite short and will take a minimal amount of effort. But before we begin, there are a few requirements you will need to have:
- Access to the latest version of iTunes via a Mac or PC. This is a must-have requirement, one cannot succeed in this task without it.
- Make sure you have the correct iOS 12.1.2 IPSW file.
- Understand that iOS 12.1.2 is as far as you can go.
Ensure that the ‘Find my phone’ option is switched off. The setting can be found in the native settings app. Navigate to iCloud then the option will be in the displayed window. Make sure the switch is turned off.
Connect the device to your PC or Mac. Launch the iTunes app(Has to be the latest version). Then switch the device to DFU mode using the following guidelines. Once the device is in DFU mode, iTunes will recognize the connection and then proceed to step 3.
Select the device on the window and hold down the option/shift key and click on the Restore iPad/iPhone button. You will then be prompted to provide the firmware file to replace the iOS 12.1.3. The pop up window will request for the path to the downloaded file. If you’ve forgotten exactly where you saved it, you can check then return to the window.
Once the user has followed all the above steps, the process is almost done. It will take a few minutes for the software to do it’s work. iOS 12.1.2 will have been freshly installed once this is done. Enjoy!
