GTA 6 release date, news and rumors: What we know so far

Grand Theft Auto 5 is undoubtedly one of the all-time best-selling games. There’s no denying the strong cultural impact GTA’s giant open-world games have had in the game world.

Unsurprisingly, its successor GTA 6 is a highly anticipated game as well even before any official updates. This popularity indicates that there are huge expectations for the upcoming sequel, something fans have been waiting ardently to see in the coming years.

However, with Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PS4 and Xbox One this October, we can’t help but think about GTA 6 and when we might hear any kind of confirmation or solid release information. It’s been a long five years folks!

We’ve put together the best pieces of leaked news and rumors for your anticipation regarding the highly coveted GTA 6.

The only confirmed news at the moment is that we definitely won’t be seeing GTA 6 in 2019. After a hoax release date, Rockstar came out to squash our hopes that we certainly wouldn’t be seeing the game anytime soon during the next year.

As long as that seems, a few tidbits of information about the sequel’s future have emerged already on the internet. There have been supposed leaks from an insider source that the next open-world crime sequel might return to the iconic Vice City. Vintage or modern-day? That remains to be seen. Or maybe a still undetermined region in South America. Some sources speculate a return to London, reminiscent of 1999’s Grand Theft Auto: There are also talks of a potential female protagonist, which would be Rockstar’s first foray into this territory, keeping up to date with the new age political climate.

The developers have kept silent on the matter so far to keep the plans under wrap for now. One thing we can be sure of is that GTA 6 is arriving for sure, and Rockstar has got plenty of ideas up its sleeve.

GTA 6 release date: When will GTA 6 come out?

Michael Pachter, Games industry analyst, gave his statement to Gamingbolt about the future update of Grand Theft Auto, and he certainly doesn’t see a sequel launching for about another three to four years.

“I say it comes out after 2022,” Pachter told the site. “Remember, Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out eight years after the first one- so the idea that GTA 6 comes out before 2021 seems ridiculous. And Rockstar, the only announcements they’ve ever made more than a year before launch was because the launch itself was delayed. So best case, GTA 6 gets announced in 2020 for a 2021 release.”

A potential time frame would be a release around 2021, if not later. With the current console cycle winding down, that timeframe indicates GTA 6 might be released just in time for the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation machines.
