Game of Thrones season 8 series finale will undoubtedly see loyalties between allies tested, but one unlikely duo who may come face to face is Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly.
Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) and Sam (John Bradley) have had one of the series’ most enduring friendships on the massively hit HBO show.
However, in the last season of Game of Thrones, we could see the pair put to the test. It may all come down in the end to the Night’s Watch oath they both undertook.
The oath taken by the Night’s Watchmen is as follows: “Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, and father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. “I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”
Sam went on to break a crucial part of the sacred oath by getting together with Gilly (Hannah Murray) and raising her son with Craster (Robert Pugh) as his own child. When Jon did the same with the wildling, Ygritte (Rose Leslie), he was deemed as having gone against the oath of the Night’s Watchmen.
Now, a popular fan theory surmises that Sam will have to answer for his misdemeanor and that Jon would be the one to do it. Fans argue that Sam taking on a wife and child openly warrants a definite death sentence for him, one that Jon Snow would have to see through himself.
Meanwhile, Sam also has some major news to break to Jon in the series finale of the show. It was Sam, who put all the pieces of the puzzle together to finally reveal Jon’s true identity.
Everyone believed Snow to be Ned Stark (Sean Bean) and a tavern wench’s illegitimate child after Ned lied. However, it turns out that he, in fact, is the legitimate offspring of Ned’s sister Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen. A truth yet untold.
What will happen to their friendship when the truth is inevitably exposed? Will Jon really betray one of his closest and loyal friends?
Meanwhile, the Game of Thrones star, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark also added in her own teaser when asked about the final series. According to the 22-year old star, there could be betrayals brewing on the horizon for the show’s heroes
Turner, recently commented in 1883 magazine how there could be serious drama incoming in the finale. She teased the readers: “What can you know… This season is bloodier than ever. It’s full of betrayal, full of war, full of danger.
“That’s all I can say without giving too much away,” Sophie explained.
Fans can spend another year to speculate about the twists and turns of the final season of the show
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO in 2019. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
